ITS Vision and Strategic Directions

Technology Leadership Committee

Web Design & Policy Group

We envision an outstanding technology environment that will strengthen existing connections as well as enable new connections within the University and beyond. This environment will facilitate scholarship, teaching and learning, business processes, and decision-making; make us competitive with other top-tier institutions; and enhance our ability to cultivate and inspire tomorrow's leaders.

To create an outstanding technology environment, we will pursue strategic campus-wide technology initiatives and cultivate spontaneous, grassroots innovations across the University community. The building blocks for our vision include the following:

A robust technology infrastructure

We must put in place a reliable, flexible infrastructure that enables the grassroots innovation, creativity, and collaboration that are crucial to the University's advancement. This technical foundation must also be well-integrated, cost-effective, and secure. Ongoing funding must be in place to properly maintain and extend the SU infrastructure.

A spirit of cooperation across the extended SU IT community

We will adopt and promote a spirit of cooperation among technology stakeholders on campus. This will enable us to more effectively identify and prioritize strategic technology initiatives. We will also extend our cooperative spirit to all SU faculty, staff, and students, and to potential partners outside of SU. Together, we will plan and implement enterprise technologies while nurturing specialized applications that bubble up from dispersed, innovative uses of technology.

Exemplary communication and collaboration technologies

We recognize that communication and collaboration will be central to SU's success. We will identify and deploy technologies that eliminate barriers of time and distance and effectively integrate mobile technologies and multimedia. SU will become a model of effective interdisciplinary, community, and global collaboration.
