All of SU's schools and colleges strongly recommend that students bring a computer to campus.
Those who are planning to purchase a computer should first review the
computer recommendations that
are specific for their school or college. All of the computers sold at the
SU Bookstore meet the technical
recommendations of the University's schools and colleges at competitive prices.
Students can compare computer hardware prices and technical specifications using the
SU Bookstore's Student Computer Checklist.
Bookstore staff can assist students to ensure that the computers they are purchasing meet school and college recommendations.
In addition, the SU Bookstore stocks a wide-range of software packages that are used in many of
the University's academic programs. Students can purchase this software at educational prices,
which are typically significantly lower than suggested retail prices.
More information on software prices is available on the Bookstore's
Software Online
Web site.
Other advantages of purchasing a computer at the SU Bookstore include:
- The computers are SU network ready and come with McAfee antivirus software.
- The Dell notebook computers come with 'Cuse Care, an enhanced warranty service for students that is provided by SU's Information Technology and Services (ITS).
- Dell notebook computers come with a special Complete Care Warranty that provides four years of coverage for non-intentional, accidental damage (liquid spills, drops, electrical surges, etc.).
The University Bookstore is located in the Schine Student Center. The computer department is
located on the second floor of the store. For more information, call the
Bookstore's (bookstore.syr.edu) toll-free number at 1-866-464-8205 (May 1 through Aug. 20, 2008).
