Information Technology and Services (ITS) operates walk-in computing service centers on the Syracuse University campus. The service centers are located in the Kimmel computer lab, 311 Waverly Ave. on North Campus, and in the Goldstein Student Center computer lab on Skytop Road on South Campus.

Sunday: Noon-10 p.m.
Monday thru Thursday: 10 a.m. -10 p.m.
Friday: 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.
Saturday: 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.

Goldstein Student Center Computer Lab
Sunday thru Thursday: 2-10 p.m.
Friday: 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.
Saturday: Noon-6 p.m.

Available services

  • AirOrangeX wireless configuration: ITS consultants will help students configure their computers for AirOrangeX and troubleshoot any other network connection problems students are experiencing. This is a free service.

  • Account management stations: Students use the stations to activate and/or reset NetIDs and passwords.
  • FreshStart: ITS computer technicians will completely erase the computer's hard drive, reformat it, and re-install the operating system with up-to-date patches. McAfee antivirus software will be installed on computers belonging to students living in SU residence halls. Students must bring in their original system CDs and Product Key. FreshStart is available for Windows Vista and XP, and Macintosh OS X. SU laptop computers bought at the Bookstore will be restored to the original condition. The FreshStart fee is $34.95 (plus tax).
  • Microsoft Office File Recovery: Technicians will make an effort to recover Microsoft Office files, although successful recovery of files is not guaranteed. The Microsoft Office File Recovery fee is $34.95 (plus tax).
  • Microsoft Office Installation: Technicians will install Microsoft Office. Students must bring in the original Microsoft Office Suite CD and Product Key. The Microsoft Office Installation fee is $34.95 (plus tax).
  • Troubleshooting Service: Technicians will spend up to two hours in an effort to rid a computer of spyware and/or teach students how to prevent infections, troubleshoot and correct other problems, and assist with printer installations. Note: The Troubleshooting Service may not resolve the problem. In those cases, FreshStart will be recommended. The Troubleshooting Service fee is $34.95 (plus tax).

'CUSE CARE: Computer hardware repair services

Students may drop computers off at the Student Computer Support Centers for ITS-provided computer hardware repair services. Hardware repair services are available only for Dell and Macintosh computers.

Hardware repair services are available under the following conditions:

  • Dell or Macintosh computers purchased at the SU Bookstore that are under warranty: Parts covered under the warranty will be replaced free of charge. There will be no additional labor charges.
  • Dell or Macintosh computers purchased elsewhere that are under warranty: Parts covered under the warranty will be replaced free of charge, but an additional labor charge of $55 per hour (plus tax) will apply.
  • VITEC Technology Drop-off Service: VITEC is a privately owned computing services vendor that provides computing hardware and software repair services beyond that which is available through ITS. Students may drop their computers off at the Student Computing Support Centers for VITEC service. Further information is available on the Web at http://its.syr.edu/rescom/vitec.cfm.
