Welcome new and returning students. Below is a guide to Information Technology and Services (ITS) at Syracuse University. Technical support and other computing information is available at any of the five Student Computing Support Centers, by calling 443-2677, or by e-mailing consult@syr.edu. The Student Computing Support Centers are located in the Brockway, Graham, Kimmel, and Lawrinson computing labs, and in the Goldstein Student Center computer lab on South Campus.

ITS establishes and maintains most of the computing infrastructure on campus. ITS staff members support the campus public computer labs and assist students who have their own computers.

NetID and password
http://netid.syr.edu
The University NetID and password provide students access to such computing services as:

  • network connections to ResNET, SU's high-speed Internet service for students and AirOrange, SU's wireless network.
  • sending and receiving e-mail,
  • 50 megabytes of storage space on the central computing system, and
  • access to computers, general and specialized software, and Internet connections in public computing labs.

MyMail

Public computer labs are conveniently located around campus for students to use. Labs are equipped with Windows XP software and laser printers. Labs are located in Kimmel, Link, Schine Student Center, and Goldstein Student Center as well as other locations. See the computer lab map link for details.

Computing Use Policy

Whether you access SU networking services through public labs, ResNET, or AirOrange, you become a member of the larger computing community. As a citizen of that community, you agree to comply with the SU Computing Use Policy. Key elements of the policy are listed below.

  • File Sharing
    http://its.syr.edu/security/desktop/filesharing.cfm
The SU Computing Use Policy and Federal law prohibit copying and distributing copyrighted material (i.e. music, movies, software) without the written permission of the copyright holders. Further information is available on the above Web pages.

  • Viruses
    http://its.syr.edu/rescom/antivirus/
To maintain a secure and reliable network, SU requires that McAfee antivirus software be installed and running on all computers connected to ResNET. Further information is available on the above Web page.

  • SpyWare
    http://its.syr.edu/security/desktop/spyware.cfm
Spyware is a program that secretly gathers information about the user and relays it to advertisers and other interested parties.
