Syracuse University Information Technology and Services offers several options for faculty and staff to access the University’s Outlook system using wireless devices.
Accessing SU’s Outlook e-mail system
Clients who use Outlook have the following options:
- MS Windows Mobile devices: These devices enable faculty and staff to access the University’s Outlook system and gain access to e-mail, contacts, calendar and tasks directly through the University’s Exchange server at no additional charge to their departments. For further information about configuring these devices, contact your departmental computing person.
- Blackberry RIM-based devices: Information Technology and Services operates a Blackberry Enterprise Server (BES) that enables faculty and staff to access the University’s Outlook system and gain access to e-mail, contacts, calendar and tasks.
For further information about configuring these devices, contact your departmental computing person.
COST:
Utilizing the Blackberry Enterprise Server is a fee based service. A monthly fee of $11.00 will be billed to departments through the SU Telecommunications Pinnacle billing process.
To obtain Blackberry Enterprise Services (BES)
Please print the WIRELESS SERVICE AUTHORIZATION Form, obtain the required authorization signature within your department, provide chart string, and fax to Telecommunications at 315-443-1819. Telecommunications will then authorize further approval for the BES administrators to activate a new BES account and will begin billing for the service.
Contact your computing support person for installation and configuration of the blackberry. ***Please note that Telecommunications should also be notified in writing to cancel a BES account if the client is no longer using the blackberry service.

Telecommunications has several devices available for faculty and staff to “demo” on a short term basis at no cost.
