introduction You can either build your Web site locally on your own computer or build it directly on gamera. If you create your site locally, you will need to move the files to your network data space on gamera. In order to move the files to gamera, use FTP (file transfer protocol). There are many ways and several tools that you can use to FTP. The following instructions explain how to use FTP from Netscape.
before you start Before trying the following steps, be sure that you have a NetID, a public directory, and permissions.
steps using netscape to ftp
  1. Open Windows Explorer and select the folder in which your Web files reside.
  2. Open Netscape Navigator.
  3. In the Location box at the top of the browser window, type "ftp://yournetid@gamera.syr.edu".
    For example, Jane Smith, who has a NetID of jsmith, might type "ftp://jsmith@gamera.syr.edu".
  4. When prompted, enter your NetID password.
  5. Click public_html.
  6. In Windows Explorer, click, drag, and release the desired file in to the Netscape window.
    The selected file is copied from your computer to the public_html folder on gamera.
  7. Repeat step 6 until all of the desired files are moved to gamera.
